So, let’s talk for a second about “dumping rooms”. You know, the one room in your house that seems to collect piles of clutter. Where your old miss-matched furniture goes to spend its last remaining years before disintegration. The room that has to be dead-bolted when company comes over. Yep, that’s the one. I lovingly refer to it as a “dumping room”.
So, unfortunately our dumping room was actually our home office -a space that we needed to use far too often to be such a dysfunctional catastrophe. When Ashley HomeStore asked if I would like to collaborate on some room makeover projects, our home office was at the top of my list… aaaand I did a crazy, happy dance!
Let’s get into the before & after’s, shall we?
Isn’t it gorgeous!!! I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out!
My vision for the new home office was a colorful, boho-modern space. I knew that I wanted an office that felt grown-up and functional but also fun and vibrant! We painted the walls Ultra White by Behr, it’s the perfect backdrop for the color in all of the furniture and accessories. We also pulled up the dingy carpet and painted right over the top of our concrete floors with Behr’s Garage Floor Paint in Slate Gray. It instantly made the tiny space feel much larger and updated. I’ll be posting a tutorial on our DIY floors very soon.
The gorgeous Harput Area Rug was the perfect choice to warm up the space and add tons of personality. The colors in the rug are repeated in accessories and art throughout the room to tie everything together.
I also chose the gorgeous Baraga Desk to house our massive desk-top computer. It’s actually designed to be an L-shaped work space and comes with an additional piece that can be attached to either end of the desk, but for or our small room, the straight shape is a better fit. The matching file cabinet underneath comes on wheels and is completely detached from the desk. It’s perfect for additional storage and I love the soft-close drawer feature.
Flanked by the Lobnik bookcases, our giant windows become a focal point in the room. The gorgeous shelves add loads of additional storage and just the right amount of warmth and maturity to the space.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m obsessed with turquoise and anything mid-century modern…so when I saw these Linon Trellis Chairs I HAD to have them! I also decided that I needed to balance out the turquoise in the chairs by carrying over the pop of color to the other side of the room. I grabbed some left-over chalk paint and had fun painting the closet door with multiple shades of blue and green. It ended up becoming such a bold and creative statement in an otherwise plain corner.
And what’s a boho room without a well-done basket wall, amiright?!?!? With the addition of the gold and marble Jazmin wall clock , the basket wall is a perfect example of my “preppy bohemian” design style.
This space has been completed for a little over a week now and I can honestly say that I’ve used it more in that time than I have in the entire three years that we’ve lived here! I finally have the office of my dreams, all thanks to Ashley HomeStore.
