Our Home Buying Journey

This post is sponsored by Unison but as always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I know I’ve mentioned this before but now it’s serious business. We finally put our home on the market, it sold right away and now WE ARE MOVING!!!

Let’s start from the beginning…

Our wedding day

My husband and I got married five years ago. At that time, I was a single mom and my son and I were living with my parents. My husband was a bachelor living with a roommate in a less than desirable location. As soon as we got back from our honeymoon we were on the hunt for a quick, move-in-ready home. We ended up renting a tiny little place close to the busy part of town. Our rental looked exactly like every other home on the block and  my hubby and I had a running joke about which one of us would mistakenly park in the neighbors driveway the most! I did what I could to make that little rental feel nice and as decorated as possible but it never quite felt like home.

Below: The only photo I could find of our rental home. womp womp womp…

The first year of our marriage we scrimped and saved and worked really hard to come up with enough money to put a down payment in on the purchase of our first home. If we could go back in time and do it all over again, we would have done a bit more researched and looked into a home co-investing partnership with folks like Unison. If you’re in the market for a new home be sure to check them out!

This boho abode has been such a blessing to our family and we have worked really hard at making it a beautiful space that reflects each of us individually and as a family. In the last four years that we have lived here, we have painted walls, fireplaces, and countertops. We’ve changed flooring, carpet, toilets, and light fixtures. Nearly every square inch is a testament to all of the blood sweat and tears that we’ve put into making this home all our own.

So why the heck are we moving? There are a number of different reasons. The housing market in our area is BOOMING so now is a great time to sell high. With the equity in our home we’ll be able to pay off debt, put some money away for a rainy day AND put a nice chunk of change down on our new home. We are currently in the process of building a brand new home with all of the high-end finishes and features that are important to us. It’s such an exciting time in our lives and we don’t take being homeowners for granted. We feel so blessed and consider owning a home a huge accomplishment!
